William Grueby founded his namesake Faience Company in Revere Massachusetts in 1897. His mix of pottery, terra cotta, bricks and tiles have always been synonymous with both quality and an organic approach to the Arts and Crafts style. Highly prized by collectors, many of his tile designs had architectural applications. Whether for use on fireplace surrounds, splash or landscape applications, his pieces were always sought after for their distinctive motifs. This tile is no exception. Fired in green, yellow and maroon glazes, they have a definitive floral appeal. The leaf elements are embossed and provide interesting visual depth. Each is topped off with a maroon "button" and are outlined in yellow shading adding to their appeal. The tile is 3 1/3" tall by 2" wide and are 5/8" thick. No markings 2024 are present on the backside but we believe it to be Grueby through additional consultation along with thickness, clay color and texture. There is a small fleabite on one outside edge but does not diminish the overall visual appeal of this tile. It is in very good condition for its age and would make a great stand alone decoration or addition to your art tile collection. Thanks for looking! Please see our other tiles in our store.
