Day 149 is a piece that is the direct result of my daydreaming at my jewelry bench! I had dreamt of one of my trips to Egypt, and upon awakening, my eyes fell on an art piece that featured stylized Egyptian lotus blossoms as seen in tombs and on temples. This was the inspiration for the shape of Day 149 - the lotus blossom.
As with all the pieces in my Quarantine Collection, Day 149 has a unique, rugged and irregular texture that results from a technique of recycling scrap silver. The leftover bits of silver from other projects are carefully laid out in a pattern, then torch-fused to combine them without the use of solder. These bits of scrap silver are given new purpose , thus can be said to be recycled.
After fusing, the piece is further shaped with various tools on an anvil, then filed and polished.
Next accent stones, such as the 3mm Amethyst on this piece, are added.
The process described ensures no two pieces are alike. Each is unique due to the variations in the scrap I have to work with, the unpredictability of the torch-fusing process, as 2024 well as a natural progression from my initial design to the completed piece.
