A substantial hoop earring, only one and not a pair worn by Bedouin women in Yemen and Saudi Arabia. There is a picture of a Saada woman wearing a pair in Marjorie Ransom's book Silver Treasures from the Land of Sheba. There is also a pair of earrings in the British Museum's collection (As1975,03.37.a-b) collected in Hijaz, Saudi Arabia.
The earring tests as silver and is quite solid. It has a thick gauge wire, not fit for standard western ear holes.
The bottom half of the hoop, is crescent shaped and decorated with silver drops and applique diamonds, some of which are granulated. It is in good vintage condition and a unique addition to your collection.
Hoop measures around 6.5 cm (2 1/2"). It weighs 35.7 grams
