12 piece nativity set made from clay. Great details with Guatemalan Maya fabric. Terracotta figures wrapped in woven cloth
This stunning set pairs the style of traditional Guatemalan weaving with artisan made red clay figures Set on a terracotta plate the set consists of 13 pieces which make up a complete nativity scene.
Clay is collected from the riverbeds of the Chenautla area, which is then sculpted by hand by Mayan artisan Sucely Pocon to make each figure 2024. They are then dried in the sun, painted with a red clay slip, polished, then slowly baked for 2-3 hours over a pine bark fire with grass layered over top to help retain the heat. Once cooled, sucely dresses each figure in traditional Mayan fabric.
What a fabulous way of including a very different Christmas to our western festivities.
