Grain Elevators 4”x4” framed 2024 mini quilt

This series is based on childhood memories of observing the world through a car window. Hitting emotionally somewhere between a sad song and a happy childhood memory, these small quilted pieces explore constructs of consumption on the landscape. This particular piece features appliquéd and hand-stitched grain elevators. At least half of the materials are repurposed from second-hand clothing, scraps from other quilters, and upholstery remnants. The papier-mâché frames contain recycled paper coated in acrylic medium. The main techniques are hand-embroidery, reverse appliqué, hand-dyeing, and machine-stitching. 2024
