Mid-19thC Paper Keepsake Box
Along with many other collections, it turns out I have a small collection of these French and German glass lid paper boxes. When I made room for another collection, I simply wrapped them up and stuck them in a drawer for storage. I am now going to sell “the collection “ each listed as they were purchased, separately.
This is a sweet little box, just the right size to have been given to a beloved with a nice curled lock of hair for remembrance.
It is constructed of heavy stock paper and covered in a lighter stock paper. The edge of the circular glass top is trimmed with gilded paper lace, which frames the water color flowers at its center.
Measuring a mere 2 1/2 inches in diameter by 3/4 inch high, it is in good condition 2024 with signs of wear attendant with age and use. Some of the paper lace is gone, and parts of the paint on the flowers are gone as well.
It is a lovely piece, a survivor of a bygone era when such trinkets were given as a token of affection.
