There are No Supply 2024 Chain Problems Here!
Second only to the Fokker Triplane in Infamy, the Fokker D.VII was perhaps WW1's ultimate fighter. It was regarded as such a threat that it was specifically stated in the Armistice Agreement that all D.VII's had to be surrendered to the Allies.
After that, virtually all of the Allies flew some of them, including the US and Japan, which each had at least a squadrons worth! They were so numerous in fact, that some were wrecked deliberately during the filming of WINGS, the first picture to win an Oscar (1927) .
This Fokker is a beautiful Blue color, and was flown in Jasta 15 by Rudolf Berthold.
Berthold was one of Germany's higher-scoring aces, with 44 victories to his credit. He eventually rose to command serveral Jastas (Squadrons). A recipient of the "Pour Le Merite" or "Blue Max", Germany's highest decoration, he survived the war, only to be killed in a riot in 1920. Sadly, the German Communists apparently strangled him with his own Blue Max.
It was with the Fokker D.VII that BMW came to the fore. Although many D.VII's were powered by Mercedes, the pilots preferred the performance of the BMW engine. BMW's symbol, its white and blue logo, symbolizes a Propeller and the Blue sky. Engines were BMW's only product in 1917 - it branched into Motorcycles in the 1920s to survive. As the owner of several classic BMWs (1966, 1969 and 1975), I feel a connection to those Brave Aviators when I take my bikes out for a spin.
World War One Aircraft have their appeal due to the wide variety of patterns and colors that were featured on them. They were sort of a blank palette that allowed great artistry. It's the reason why I have been recently concentrating on this era of Aircraft.
I am available to produce D.VII's on a commission basis, should anyone be interested: there were US, Japanese, Dutch, French, Belgian, Russian (White and Red), Polish and even Thai Fokkers. A Fascinating Aircraft!
For the protection of this delicate model, it will be shipped in a very nice plastic display case so that it can be enjoyed for years to come!
