BURMA JADEITE JADE –13 x 9.5 mm Oval Cabochon - Natural & Untreated – Grass on Spring Snow – New Old Stock - Vintage Hong Kong circa 1960s

There are two gemstones known as Jade. There is the more common Nephrite, which is usually green and tends to sell in the cheaper price ranges and then there is Jadeite. The Chinese call Jadeite the "Good" Jade. There are over 2,600 shades of color, with over a hundred thousand possible color combinations of Jadeite. Two of the highest priced categories at Sotheby's jewelry and gemstone auctions are ruby and jade. The more that green Jadeite jade looks like gem quality emerald, the more expensive it is. Green, red and other rare colors of Jadeite have sold for multi millions of dollars per gemstone. The range of prices and grades for Jadeite Jade ranges from a few dollars to millions of dollars depending upon the size and quality of the gemstone. This cabochon was cut in Hong Kong in the 1960s. The stone isn't dyed. The cabochon is natural and untreated. Most modern cut Jade cabochons have been coated with glassy resins to hide the slightly irregular surface features of natural jade, which is deceitful and a pity. This stone has been brightly polished. This jadeite cab is semi-translucent. The gemstone is a lovely green over a light creamy green base, which is sometimes called, “Grass on Spring Snow”. The gem weights 4.27 carats. It measures 13 x 9.5 x 4 mm or approximately 1/2 x 3/8 x 3/16 of an inch. The rough material for this gemstone came from Myanmar, formally known as Burma. There is a Chinese saying which states that Gold has a value while jade is priceless. It is also said that Jadeite strengthens and heals the body, while extending the wearer's brief stay on planet Earth. Gemstones can look different under different types of light. The redder background images were taken with incandescent house light while the other images used a Daylight LED light source. Sunlight is the best light to view most gemstones. Unfortunately, we rarely have sunlight and blue skies in Maine, so outdoor photos are nearly impossible to take. Our prices are at wholesale. A Gift box is included with this purchase.
