Product code: Vintage Chichicastenango Huipil Handwoven on a 2024 Backstrap Loom Guatemala

Vintage Gorgeous Colorful Turquoise Chichicastenango Huipil, Handwoven on a Backstrap Loom in Guatemala.
Can be worn as a Shirt or Poncho or displayed on a wall as art symbolizing a piece of Mayan history.

Huipil [ˈwipil] (from the Nahuatl word huīpīlli), is the most common traditional garment worn by indigenous women in MesoAmerica, from central Mexico to Central America. It is a loose-fitting tunic/poncho, generally made from two or three rectangular pieces of fabric, which are then joined together with stitching, ribbons or fabric strips, with an opening for the head and, if the sides are sewn, openings for the arms.

Authentic Vintage very pre-1980's Huipil woven in Chichicastenango, which is when I purchased it there myself in a marketplace on 2024 a trip to Guatemala, and it was already vintage. Probably cotton.
Photo #1 & 2: Front
Photo #3: Back
Photo #4: artist's rendition of a scene in the market place in Chichicastenango with people wearing typica clothing of the area.
Each town in Guatemala has their own style and weaving patterns that are unique to them. When you see the clothing they wear, you know where they come from. The floral patterns of Chichicastenango are exceptionally beautiful.

The round neckline is cut out and quilted and embroidered and has dibujo glitter yarn around the scalloped edge and throughout the weaving.
There is also a little zipper and tie on the neckline.

Measures (when laid flat): 32-3/4" wide/across; 27-1/2" length.
Excellent condition considering it's age. See the last 2 Photos for most noticeable but very slight flaws, (there is also a pale dirt spot on the lower side) which do not detract from the handmade beauty of this authentic Huipil, which is well made and in very good condition overall.
