DEER HILL AMETHYST comes from the township of Stow Maine. There have been a number of finds of Amethyst and other gemstones within that mountainous region of Western Maine over the course of many decades. The Amethyst produced has a range of tones from light to dark. The purple color has a hint of pink. Maine Amethyst is much rarer than its Brazilian counterpart. This makes Maine Amethyst more expensive. However, consideration should be made that Maine Amethyst is an American gemstone and a national treasure. These Amethysts are 7 x 5-millimeter Facetted Ovals. They are 3.5 mm deep and have a combined weight of 1.49 carats. These Amethysts have a medium dark color tone and are eye clean. They were cut in Germany prior to the year 2000. Gemstones can look different under different types of light. The redder background images were taken with incandescent house light while the other images used a Daylight LED light source. Sunlight is the best light to view most gemstones. Unfortunately, we rarely have sunlight and blue skies in Maine, so outdoor photos are nearly impossible to take. Our prices are at wholesale. A Gift box is included with this purchase.
