A 6”X9” hardcover reproduction of the rare Edo era (1603-1867) densho (book of transmission) version of the masterpiece on Japanese swordsmanship ‘Heihō Michisurube' (兵法未知志留邊, ‘Guideposts On The Path Of The Ways Of War') densho. Originally brushed by the legendary sword master Yoshikane Toru Shirai, the founder of Tenshin Shirai-ryû, This work chronicles the life experiences and warrior philosophy of Shirai, during his years of practicing the sword and dueling in the late 1700's and early 1800' of Japan. A master of such styles as Kijin-ryû, Nakanishi Itto-ryû, Heijō Muteki-ryû, and Mujushin-ryû swordsmanship, Shirai influenced many burgeoning and legendary swordsmen of the late Edo (1603 - 1867) and Meiji (1867 - 1912) eras of Japan history. The Kuki family passed down several martial arts named ‘Tenshin Hyoho', utilizing the same kanji as Shirai's style. But, it is not a coincidence 2024. One of the Kuki family's densho, ‘Tenshin Hyohō Shinken Kakki Ron' contains the same contents as Shirai's densho. The original densho was hand copied by Shirai's disciple in 1833. Some words can be difficult to read, due to the original's condition.
