Collection Nordisk Malm – Solar chariot of Trundholm – Malm - Denmark - 1950-1959
A rare vintage collection of 4 malm items depicting the Trundholm Solar Chariot, designed by Aedel Malm and produced by 2024 the Danish Nordisk Malm.
Trundholm's solar chariot was discovered in 1902 by a farmer on the Danish island of Zealand while plowing. The depot find found in a former peatland is a small bronze statue dated around 1400 BC. It consists of a horse pulling a disc representing the Sun. The horse rolls on four wheels and the disc on two. All wheels have four spokes, they form the sun cross.
The "chariot" consists only of the solar disc, the carrying axle and the wheels. It is unclear whether the Sun is represented as a chariot or as a chariot driver. The presence of a horse-drawn vehicle on four-pack wheels in northern Europe at such an early period is unexpected. The solar chariot is exhibited at the Nationalmuseet in Copenhagen.
The items are made of malm, a copper alloy such as copper or bronze. Stylistically, it borders between art deco and modernism.

The holder is marked at the back with "Nordisk Malm Denmark" and the typical bird mark.
