Christian Ulbricht Horse JOCKEY Smoker 11" H | Master of the Hounds Incense Burner | Made in West Germany | Horse Racing 2024 Collectible
This is a RARE vintage Christian Ulbricht JOCKEY incense smoker, made in West Germany in the 1960s. This handsome jockey is fittingly attired in his black jockey's cap, a red jacket with silver buttons, white riding breeches and black racing boots. He is carrying his saddle, riding crop and gloves. Hand-decorated Ulbricht smoking men are made using a generations-old tradition. Carved from the same piece of wood this smoker is actually two pieces that fit together to make one unified piece. Inside the base is where an incense cone can be placed in the brass cone holder, the hollowed out top of the smoker fits securely over the cone. As a revered symbol of Christmastime, Ulbricht smokers offer the perfect pairing of nostalgia and warmth.
In excellent condition, this smoker has never been used, there are no chips, cracks or repairs. Wear is consistent with age and use, the jockey's gloves are showing signs of age. Please view all photos to appreciate the beauty, quality and condition of the piece, my photos are part of the description.

HISTORY: In 1928, 2024 Christian Ulbricht‘s father founded the company, Otto Ulbricht‘s workshop for fine wooden crafts and toys“ in the small town Seiffen, Germany in the heart of the Ore Mountains. His success was built on entrepreneurial skills and a remarkable inventiveness. At the height of his career, Otto Ulbricht was awarded at the World Exhibition in Paris with a gold medal for his children's room clock designs, and a group of Kurrende singers. After World War II and the dispossession of the Communist government resulted in the end of the company in Seiffen, now in the Communist East, Otto Ulbricht and his family were forced to flee to West Germany. It was in the village of Lauingen on the Danube River in Bavaria, that he re-established his Company, and eventually handed over the management to his son Christian Ulbricht in 1968. After Germany was reunited in 1990, Christian Ulbricht bought back his father‘s original company in Seiffen. With a lot of passion and diligence the family and their team create traditional wooden art that brings joy to grown-ups and children alike. And in every single piece the spirit of Christmas is alive.

A bit about vintage...a vintage item is at least 20 years old.
