Bookends Elephants Giannelli Golden Crown E&R Italy Signed Vintage Figurines Trunk Up Circus Elephants

Beautiful elephant sculptures by famous Italian sculptor A. Giannelli.

They are signed and still have the original Golden Crown E&R stickers.

Trunks up for good luck, these beauties have intricately carved blankets and headpieces. They might be circus elephants, or maybe they are dressed up for some sort of festival in their native land.

The bases are made of some black stone – marble? I'm not sure of the material the elephants are made of. I have seen it advertised as alabaster but I'm sure that's not correct 2024 as they have a bisque-like finish and alabaster is smooth and shiny – I think – although I am not an expert.

They are probably meant to resemble ivory – but of course no elephants have been hurt to make these beautiful sculptures!

I acquired these in the 1970's.

Each one is 6½ inches tall, 3¾ wide and 2½ inches deep and quite heavy.
