Lovers - modern 2024 style Makonde carving of African Blackwood

This is a beautiful carving of a pair of lovers done in modern 2024 style by Makonde carvers in Tanzania. The item is carved from the heartwood of the Mpingo tree also known as African Blackwood. We purchased this item directly from carvers who were working by the side of the road in Tanzania.

The Makonde people in Tanzania and Northern Mozambique have been carvers for generations. This particular item is a relatively new style which depicts lovers.
