Product code: Two Lovely Antique Silver Dishes ~ 800 Silver 2024 ~ German Silver

Sweet cherubs playing, surrounded by musical instruments...a great little dish for holding candy or special treats, or your jewelry at night, or for gifting to a friend. I love giving pieces like this one as fun shower or hostess gifts with a note reflecting upon all of the parties that century-old pieces like these might have seen.

The Behrnd Herman Dish: An elegant rectangular dish, heavy for its size, German 800 Silver, ornate with cherubs at play, pierced--also called reticulated, (see the cutwork detail throughout the piece) with rose floral accents, hallmarked 800, bearing an HB hallmark that I believe to be of Behrnd Hermann of Dresden, Germany, a silver company founded 1881.
The dish: 6 x 4 x 1 1/2"
Approximate Weight: 97 grams
Hallmarks: 800 crescent and crown of Germany, HB

The Antique 800 Silver Art Nouveau flowered oval dish, maker unknown. Again, heavily pierced, reticulated design in the rose pattern.
The dish: 5 3/8 x 4 3/4 x 1" Roses
Approximate Weight: 83 grams
Hallmarks: 800 crescent and crown of Germany, HB

Beautiful condition with surface wear consistent with age. You will notice the rose design motif throughout the piece. The story of the Hildesheim Rose, after which this piece is patterned, delights me. The oldest known rose alive today, it has withstood wars and 2024 time. Rising 69 feet at the Hildesheim Cathedral, it's an inspirational point for the German nation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thousand-year_Rose

A word of caution...some sellers advertise these pieces as 800 silver when they are silver plate. Be sure that you can see the mark.

Since it's solid 800 silver, you don't have to worry about the finish wearing off with use. A simple polish removes any accumulating tarnish. (I prefer Hagerty Silversmith's wash with a tarnish preventative. Avoid using silver dips; they'll remove the lovely patina that gathers in the crevices to enhance the detail of these pieces.)

No monogram.

Commensurate with age, the condition is very good to excellent.
