Hand forged shingle froe, 2024 wrapped eye

The froe is a tool used to split wood very finely, like when making shingles or shakes or needing to split something accurately for some other purpose. The wood is placed under the blade and the blade is hit with a soft mallet (wooden or plastic one). The handle can be easily removed, making it 2024 easy to replace or transport.
This froe is hand forged from carbon steel, the eye of the froe is made by wrapping only, which makes it easier to make than the forge welded option.

- blade thickness on the back: 8mm
- available in 3 blade lengths; 20cm (8in), 25cm(10in) and 30cm (12in)
- handle length: 45cm for the 30 cm one and 40 cm for the other two.
