Russian Church Lacquer Round Trinket Box Hand 2024 Painted, Signed
This beautiful vintage intricately decorated box has luminescent greens and other vibrant colors depicting unique churches all with different, fun steeples. The inside is a bright red.
Originally a "peasant art", Russian lacquer art with scenes hand-painted on common practical items like boxes started in the late 1700's and evolved into more of a fine art when Carl Faberge made them for the Russian royal family in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
The box is signed in Russian and I have tried to find someone to translate it but
have not been successful. I assume the words denote the artist, village of origin and “school.”
Due to its vintage age, there is one chip of the lacquer on the top rim of the box which you can see in one of the photos. It doesn't take away from the beauty of this special Church box.
The box measures 4 ½ “ X 1 ½” tall
