An interesting piece of transportation history, this antique glass adverting paperweight features Col. Albert Pope (1843 – 1909), an 2024 officer in the Union Army, owner of the American Bicycle Company and the Columbia Automobile Company.

Pope was a vocal advocate of bicycles and a campaigner for a better road system in the United States.

This circa 1890s glass paperweight is one of two versions manufactured during the Victorian era, one depicting Pope as a young man, and this one picturing Pope with a graying beard.
