Symbolism and application of the item

This small pectoral cross is dedicated to the Trinity Lavra 2024 of St. Sergius. This is the most important Russian monastery and the spiritual center of the Russian Orthodox Church. The monastery is situated in the town of Sergiyev Posad, about 70 km to the northeast of Moscow by the road leading to Yaroslavl. The monastery was founded in 1337 by one of the most venerated Russian saints, Sergius of Radonezh, and his brother Stephan, who built a wooden church in honor of the Holy Trinity on Makovets Hill. The early development of the monastic community is well documented in the contemporary lives of Sergius and his disciples. In 1422, in the place of the wooden monastery devastated by fire, the disciple of St. Sergius, the venerable Nikon of Radonezh founded a new stone temple. The greatest icon painters of medieval Russia, Andrei Rublev, and Daniil Chyorny were summoned to decorate the cathedral with frescoes.

On the front side of the cross, you can see the shape of the Holy Trinity church, inside of which three angels sit at the table. They are the image of the Holy Trinity icon, created by the venerable Andrej Rublev. At the bottom, there is a prayer: „Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us!“ On the gilded rim, there are the words of a prayer appeal to each person of the Triune God: "Lord, cleanse our sins, Lord, forgive our iniquity, Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities." This is part of the prayer to the Most Holy Trinity, one of the main prayers with which any service in the church begins. During the construction of the Trinity Cathedral, the relics of St. Sergius were found, which became the main shrine of the new church, and the wooden coffin, in which his holy body was in the ground from 1392 to 1422, at the end of the 16th century was moved to the new five-domed Assumption Cathedral. Against the background of this cathedral, St. Sergius is depicted on the reverse of the cross. The venerable Sergius was a great miracle worker and teacher of the Church, a spiritual mentor of Ancient Rus. His life says that he was pre-chosen by God even before birth: during the liturgy, he cried out three times in his mother's womb. The piety of his parents, his faith and spiritual purity, sincere love for God, and diligence in prayer were already revealed to St. Sergius is a mysterious spiritual world. He showed the world an example of such holy love through many of his disciples, who spread throughout the Russian land. The Monk Sergius died on September 25, 1392. Before his death, he commanded the brethren, first of all, to strictly preserve the purity of the Orthodox faith. On the gold board on the back is written a prayer: "All that flows from the soul to your divine temple, save from troubles, God-wise Sergy." This cross can be the best gift to any believer. This cross was created by the artist Aleksandr Burla and the team of the company „Akimov“.
