2024 Antique French Morbier Comtoise Brass Repoussé Frame, Circa Late 1800s Originally Part of French Grandfathter Clock
Lovely French Morbier Comtoise brass repoussé frame, circa 1850 - 1890. Originally encircled an enamel clock face as part of a French grandfather clock. Repoussé is a metalworking technique in which a malleable metal like brass is ornamented or shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief. This brass framing features clusters of hanging grapes. The brass metal is thin in order for the shaping of the design. Some verdigris on the backside due to oxidation and age. No breaks in the brass. Wonderful patina! Perfect on a 2024 wall, hanging amongst a grouping of French paintings, etc.
