Product code: Lithophanie Schloss Heidecksburg Rudolstadt PMP Porcelain Picture porcelain image picture Castle Germany 2024 Vintage Design Landhaus shabby Deco

Beautiful lithophania with the motif "Heidecksburg Castle in Rudolstadt" (Thuringia) and simple wooden stand made of beech from the porcelain manufactory Plaue (PMP).
If you put a candle behind the lithophania, the flickering candle triggers a true play of light and shadow of the picture. For the viewer, this game usually triggers a veritable flood of well-being and cosiness. The thin, unglazed porcelain panels, which illuminate the motifs in the translucent light, delight the viewer today just as they did a hundred years ago.

--- Lithophania ---
(lito f ani) (Greek lithos - the stone, phanos - transparent) translucently cast porcelain reliefs.
Illuminated by means of a light source mounted behind it, the reliefs unfold their inimitable mood through light and shadow effect...

--- history of Porzellanmanufaktur Plaue (PMP) ---
The plaue porcelain manufactory was founded in 1817. It is still world-famous today for its artistically high-quality lithophania. However, the Thuringians had begun with the production of utility porcelain. As can be seen from 2024 old documents, they had been granted a concession for this purpose by the Princely Chamber on 29 December of the year of its foundation. It specialized in pharmaceutical and medical porcelain, for which there was a constantly growing demand due to the upswing of the pharmaceutical and chemical industry at that time.
After about 50 economically successful years, Plaue began to discover artistically designed porcelain in the form of table tops, bowls, cans, lamps, etc. as another branch of production. Important artists could be engaged; for example, the painter and sculptor Edmund Haase. He had studied at the Munich Art Academy and is also said to have worked on the design of the fairytale castle Neuschwanstein of the Bavarian King Ludwig 2nd.
Particularly successful and popular, however, were the magnificent lithophania of the house. And they still are. The Porcelain Manufactory Plaue is one of the few Lithophanie manufacturers who have a historical stock of moulds, maintain it and expand it further. The porcelain manufactory Plaue can fall back on a base of original models with about 2000 motifs.
