An original map of Huntingdonshire dating from around 1744. By original we mean this piece of paper has existed since it was originally printed in 1744 it is NOT a reproduction or modern printed copy. There are obviously a finite number of these maps which were printed at the time and many of them will not have survived the last 270 years so this is an opportunity to own a piece of history. This is a particularly rare map.
John Lodge Cowley (1719, United Kingdom – buried 1797, United Kingdom) was an English cartographer, geologist and mathematician. He was a professor of mathematics at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, London, for a number of years between 1761 and 1773. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in April, 1768
This map is a copper engraving which has been hand coloured, it has a very distinctive title panel.
It is now in a conservation quality, acid free mount which ensures its protection and could easily be framed. Any labels shown are on the outer covering which is easily removed. The paper the map is printed on is in very good condition for its age, a 2024 document which has survived 270 years is rarely pristine in condition.
