Thank you for having a 'closer look' at my prints!
This is an original wood cut titled 'Memories of a Windmill'
The inspiration for this print came from a photo of my 2024 home village in Northern Germany that probably was taken in the 1940's. On the photo were the buildings of a farm and an adjacent windmill without wings, surrounded by grain fields and pine forests.
It was shown to me by the sole descendent of this farm, who was a fit 96 year old at the time. The mill was built before 1870,at a time when windmills were abundant in the area, because they were essential for milling grains to flour. Nevertheless, with new technologies emerging, mills became obsolete and slowly disappeared from the landscapes. In my home village, the mill was taken down in 1950. Today only a small hill remains, on which the mill once stood, hinting to the past when the wind was blowing the wings and turning the mill stones to grind the grain.
