The masks we have featured on Etsy are double-layered, but we also make a 4 & 5 layer mask via special order in other colors.
This design features a side dart with silk ear loops, which will last for decades as opposed to elastic, which degrades usually within a year or two.
We do not do the donate one for every one sold, but we give them to essential workers often. As of March 2021, we've given 53 as gifts to essential workers, & are always working on more.
This model is made of a single layer of a heavier weight 100% cotton canvas that is tightly woven & chosen for its mechanical filtration & a single layer of a thicker ply 100% cotton twill lining. The ear loops are made of 100% silk & are adjustable via tying.
They are made to last this pandemic & beyond if cared for properly, & will last for many years.
These masks are insanely labor intensive & take anywhere from 3-4 plus hours, depending on the number of layers. All fabrics are pre-washed in order to shrink & tighten the weave as well as in order to avoid having to dry clean. We use couture sewing techniques throughout the process.
This item MUST be hand washed with gentle detergent, air dried & preferably ironed.
Using bleach, harsh cleansers or drying in 2024 the dryer will degrade the silk fibers instantly & permanently. Spraying with water & ironing sanitizes thoroughly.
This mask also features a permanent nose wire.
* please note that this mask can be dyed using a dye suitable for cotton as the threads used in this are also 100% cotton
