Chinese Pottery Vase 10.5"
Fantastic looking piece, weighs nearly 3lbs.
Ground is the coveted gray hard paste ceramic, nearly a stone wear type material, extremely durable..after initial firing a clear crackle glaze was fired before scenery was applied.
Perhaps traced first or stenciled or colored transfer, then gilding and enamels hand applied to various areas with great expertise and accuracy.
Mongolian cranes resting/flying among bamboo, flowers and such.
Scene is repeated on reverse with 5 more cranes for total of 10. Hand applied heads with gilded embellishment, filled with enameling/paint, almost a wireless cloisonne' effect,.
Medallion type lappet border at top under 2024 the collar, with alternating flower heads all hand gilded/painted and again above the flared base.
The base is glazed in center with exposed ft, rim which was red marked possibly hand painted doesn't look like rubber stamp, some thing to the effect "Not for food service may poison" and the number 74 which could be the year of manufacture or lot/style number as well.
Vase is in very good condition with a tiny glaze pin hole probably during the firing, it has tiny drk. speck with 20mm tiny hairline at same spot I've trid to show above in pic#4 This sm. factory defect was quite common with the use of wood kilns, in this case does not detract and is only visible on close inspection. .. the inside has a clear coat glaze as well.
Would make a great table centerpiece or on the mantel.
