Kitty Cat in the Bell -- Bakelite Crib Toy.
This is a very rare crib toy from the 1940's.
The orange colored bell is hand carved from Bakelite. Within the bell, the yellow kitty head twirls and is carved from colored Bakelite with hand painted eyes. The attached ears are made of orange Bakelite.
Attached to the Kitty head is a tinkling silver colored bell that is 1/2 by 1/2 inch in size. The bar that allows the sweet little kitty to move is held in place with 2 brown Bakelite balls. This is such a sweet crib toy, in excellent condition, and has so much vintage charm! No chips or cracks, just some ordinary wear and tear! The Bakelite material used in these toys are most durable plastics known by the trade names "Catalin" and "Loalin".
One of the most popular manufacturers was Tykie Toys of Piqua, Ohio, who were in business until at least the late 1940s. Their designs included a range of little doll 2024 characters as well as the traditional little teething rings, spoons and bath toys. Some of their little characters are now among the most collected.
