Fantastik floral batik tulis hip wrapper, 2024 purple on white

This type of cloth is called a kain panjang, long cloth. It is used for many purposes throughout Indonesia, but primalrily as a hip wrapper. This piece is primissima cotton, hand drawn with a fine-spouted canting, the 2024 tool to apply the wax. This is an unusual monochromatic color scheme in Purple and white. It was created in collaboration with Hartono, a young designer in a small batik workshop in the village of Kliwonan in Sragen Province, Java, Indonesia. 41"x92" (105cm x 2.34m) It would make a wonderful wall hanging, table cover, or fabric for a shirt.
