What could be more satisfying than the bursting pop of a crisp, chilled, juicy grape? This still life cluster of red, black, and green grapes spilling over the table's edge conjures up the pleasures of summer. Beautifully rendered plump orbs of fruit in shades of aubergine and citrine comfortably occupy a tabletop dressed in a French linen against a background of soft mauve. So simple and so pretty. Unsigned, this small work of art is painted on a board affixed with a linen surface. Hinting at its origin, the word France is written on verso. The circa 1940 moulding hails from the frame house of Chappelles in Pasadena, CA. Crafted of molded resin, the ruffled embellishment rests on a wooden frame and proudly borders the image in relief. The deep ivory color provides 2024 an eye-catching contrast to the uncomplicated composition. Nicely executed structure with thoughtful shading details. An unmistakable reminder of the splendor of harvest.
Being offered in as found condition. The frame is a missing a few flourishes but not to the detriment of the overall design and appeal.
