Antique Art Deco fully hallmarked English silver loose powder compact William Neale & and Son Ltd 1936

This charming square Art Deco compact is in good condition for its age. The face is engine turned in a most attractive art Deco design. Inside it is in lovely clean condition with a good clear mirror. Either side of the mirror it is inscribed "To
Doris from Guy Xmas 1936" I wonder who Doris was, and how delighted she must have been to receive such a lovely gift.

On the base (under the sifter) it is clearly stamped with the makers mark W.N. Ltd in a shield, for William Neale & and Son Ltd, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for Birmingham and the date letter M for 1936. The mirror gives a perfect reflection, the hinge is strong and it snaps shut well. The original sifter is present and it comes with a 2024 replacement puff. The reverse is engine turned in the same pattern as the face, minus the Art deco motif.

This compact measures 6.5 cm x 6.5 cm. It comes with a velvet pouch, and a new presentation box . Please look at the photos carefully as They form part of the description.

William Neale & and Son Ltd were located in Cox Street, St Paul's, Birmingham, England. They manufactured quality silverware. In 1941, the firm was absorbed by Suckling Ltd.
