Mid Century (50s) 2024 Cool ERNEST SOHN Enamel, Copper and Walnut Sectioned BOX / 9-5/16" x 4" / Very Good Condition / Hip, Rare Find Collectible

What an amazing, one of the best finds in my life, score!!! And could this stunning creation BE any more MCM cool and beatnik groovy hip???

This fabulous Sectioned Box was created and crafted by Ernest Sohn, one of the most talented giftware Designers of the Mid Century Mod period. Sohn's prolific creations brought timeless sophistication and elegance to both casual and elegant household decor items. Winner of The Museum of Modern Art's Good Design Award in the 50s, Sohn enjoyed working in many creative and artistic forums, including metal, wood and ceramics.

Crafted from Genuine Walnut, and topped off with a removable Lid combining the use of enamel, copper and metal, this Sectioned Box is a beauty - with no chips or nicks to either the Wood or the Lid. There are some white smudge marks on the inside of the Box (which I have not tried to remove) and what looks like a scratch on the left hand side of the Lid (through the copper in the drum graphic), but I believe this flaw was original to the piece. Also, the Lid has a slight rise in the middle, which I believe is also original to the piece. Other than these few small imperfections, this Box is in terrific shape for its advanced (70+ years) age.

Speaking of the Lid, check out the graphic design on the top of it - it is to die for. Featuring a hipper than hip scene of some very groovy musical instruments (including a drum set, bongo drums, a trumpet, a guitar and a bass) waiting to be played, this is definitely 50s Mid Century Daddio-cool design at its hippest!

The contoured, two sectioned Box measures 9-1/4" across, 4" wide and 1-1/4" in height. Each Section measures 4" across and 3-1/8" wide. The Lid, which has a cork inset to protect valuables inside the Box, measures 9-5/16" across and 4" wide. Together the Box and Lid measure 1-7/16" in height. Marked "GENUINE WALNUT DESIGNED BY Ernest Sohn" on the bottom of the Box - so you know this is the real deal!
