This is a beautiful Fox hide with a winter coat that I bark tanned. I see it primarily to be used as part of an alter or crafted with to makes things like clothing, pouches, hats etc.. but there are certainly many more ways that it can be used!
My intention with making things like this is to honor the lost life of these animals, to honor the gift of its coat and fur, and to transform it into something stable, beautiful and usable.
This particular fox was found roadside by a friend who then passed him on to me. I reverently skinned and buried him and then fainted the hide using a bark tan method.
I do all my tanning in ethical and traditional ways by hand. This is not your average industrial chemical tanned fox hide from a fox that was hunted or trapped. This is me trying to 2024 honor the precious wild ones who are tragically killed by cars around me and tanning them with traditional backyard methods.
*Unfortunately in my learning the ears got messed up and so there is some hair slippage there. Also because of the nature of roadkill hides there are some wholes that had to get sewn up on the hide.
